October 2010, Kentucky hosted the World Equestrian Games in Lexington Kentucky. Susie Duncan, riding instructor at Bear Moon Farm, and her husband Steve were volunteers for the entire 15 days. They applied four years in advance to be a part of the WEGS volunteer team and were assigned to work on the Endurance Team and the Decoration Crew. As part of the Endurance Team, they served as "road crossers" - which means they watched for the horses as the approached road areas and alerted the police so they could stop traffic. They started at 4:30 a.m. the day of the race and finished at 11:30 p.m.! For the rest of the games they were part of the "Decoration Crew". They decorated everything that required flowers, from around the jumps to all the arenas and the award stands. The decoration Crew usually put in an 8-12 hour day. The benefit of all this work was being part of such a historic event and meeting so many people from all around the world. In addition, they were able to see some or most of vaulting, dressage freestyle, jumping, eventing, reining, para-dressage, driving dressage and the driving marathon. รรรรร
When the principal at Oakview Elementary School in Ashland wanted her students to learn more about WEGS and the importance of such an event for Kentucky, she asked one of the students, Anne, if she'd be able to bring her horse to school and demonstrate some dressage. Anne took her horse, Rusty, and her riding instructor Susie Duncan to Oakview for a demo. While Anne demonstrated dressage on Rusty, Susie explained to the students about dressage, WEGS and answered student questions. The demo was a big success with the students and Anne and Rusty made the local newspaper! รรรรร
Anne and Susie attended a combined training schooling show at Annabella Farm in Lexington Kentucky. Susie received a first in the Greenie Level and a third in Beginner Novice. This was Anne and Rusty's first show and they received a fourth in Greenie Level. Congratulations to Anne and Susie! รรรรร
Susie and three of her students, Anne, Kelsey and Grace attended the combined training schooling show at Ohio University in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. Anne and Susie also showed in the musical freestyle. Lots of ribbons for all but the best surprise was that the riders from Bear Moon Farm won the Second Place team ribbon! Congratulations to a great team! รรรรร
All of us from the barn took our pets to the annual Blessing of the Animals at the First Christian Church in Ashland, Kentucky. We all took dogs and cats but Susie took her horse Petra. It was a beautiful service and was a great opportunity to thank God for all the wonderful animals that make our lives so complete. รรรรร
Bear Moon Farm hosted a 3 day
horsemanship course with clinician Steve Lantvit. Steve's
focus is on all around horsemanship and the creation of the
versality horse. Steve is a fabulous instructor and puts on a great
clinic; we loved him! He will help you with any riding
problem, knows when to challenge you and your horse and has a wide
array of experiences in both western and English disciplines.

2010 Annual Bear Moon Trail Ride. We're very lucky to have about 300 acres of trails around the farm for riding and so the first Saturday in November we celebrate with family and friends with an annual trail ride and cook out. This past year, Karen and Sherri drove in from Lexington Kentucky to join the celebration. |
